A Weekend in Pontian
After a long and tiring week of classes and assignments, I eagerly awaited the weekend. The moment Friday arrived, I packed my bag and hopped onto the bus heading to my hometown, Pontian. The familiar excitement of returning home bubbled within me, a welcome break from the bustling life of college in Selangor.
As the bus rumbled along the highway, I gazed out the window, watching the landscape shift from concrete buildings to lush green fields. The journey felt like a time machine, transporting me back to the carefree days of my childhood. After a couple of hours, the bus pulled into Pontian, and a wave of nostalgia washed over me as I stepped off.
My family was waiting for me, their smiles instantly making me feel at home. After a warm embrace, we headed back to our house, where the comforting aroma of my mother’s cooking filled the air. She had prepared my favorite nasi lemak with fried chicken and sambal. I dug in, savoring every bite and catching up with my family about their week.
The next morning, I decided to explore the local market. It was bustling with life, vendors calling out, and the vibrant colors of fresh produce surrounding me. I stopped by a stall selling traditional kueh and chatted with the friendly vendor, who recognized me from my childhood visits. I couldn’t resist buying some ondeh-ondeh to take home.
Feeling nostalgic, I made my way to the beach afterward. The sun was shining brightly, and the sound of waves crashing against the shore filled my ears. I walked along the sandy beach, remembering the countless summer days spent here with friends. I picked up seashells, feeling the warmth of the sun on my skin and letting the cool sea breeze wash over me.
Later, I met up with some old friends at a café. We reminisced about our school days, shared our college experiences, and made plans for a mini reunion. Laughter echoed around the table as we recounted silly stories, feeling the bonds of friendship grow stronger.
As the sun began to set, we headed to a nearby viewpoint that overlooked the ocean. The sky transformed into a canvas of pinks and oranges, and I felt a deep sense of gratitude for these moments. It reminded me of the importance of reconnecting with my roots, no matter how busy life became.
On Sunday, I spent quality time with my family, helping my mom prepare lunch and sharing stories about college life. I felt rejuvenated, my heart full of love and laughter.
As the weekend came to an end, I packed my bags and prepared to head back to Selangor. The bus ride felt different this time; I was filled with a sense of peace and connection to my hometown. Pontian would always be my refuge, a place where I could recharge and remember who I was.
As the bus rolled away, I looked out the window, taking in the familiar sights one last time. I knew I would carry the warmth of home with me, ready to tackle the challenges of college life once again.
